Regional Yucatán & Oaxacan cooking inspired by Don Luis — fresh tortillas, cochinita pibil slow-braised in banana leaves, and the margaritas that put Route 9 on the map.

The Story · 01

Cooking that tastes
of home.

Don Luis opened Maya Café on Route 9 in 2005 with a single goal: bring the flavors of his grandmother's Yucatán kitchen to the Hudson Valley. Twenty-one years later, the molcajete is still pulled tableside, the cochinita pibil still slow-braises in banana leaves, and the recado rojo is still the answer to every question.

As Don Luis steps into an ambassador role, fresh ownership has reinvigorated the restaurant and continues the proud traditions he exemplified.

A lively, colorful cantina with live music on the weekends — come hungry, come thirsty, come hug the owner on the way out.

It tasted like my abuelita's house. Don Luis spent extra time talking with us — if you're looking for great Yucatán food, this is the place.
